Alpha Kappa Delta offers several opportunities for funding and awards each year. Please contact the Executive Office if you have any questions.


FUNDING


Student Member Research Travel Grant
The purpose of this program is to award funds to AKD student members who present at regional sociology conferences.
Up to $400/student, but no more than $1,200 per chapter may be awarded.
Deadlines: Fall: October 5, 2016 | Winter: January 31, 2017 | Spring: February 28, 2017

*Note: ESS applications are due no later than the winter deadline

Chapter Representative Research Supplement Travel Grant
The purpose of this program is to award chapter representatives a supplement grant to travel with their students presenting at regional sociology conferences.
Up to $250 may be awarded to chapter representatives.
Deadlines: Fall: October 5, 2016 | Winter: January 31, 2017 | Spring: February 28, 2017

*Note: ESS applications are due no later than the winter deadline

Initiation Speaker Grant
Funds may be used to help support grants paid to induction ceremony speakers.
Up to $500 may be awarded to chapters.
Deadlines: Fall: October 5, 2016 | Winter: January 31, 2017 | Spring: February 28, 2017


Symposium Funding
The purpose of this program is to provide funds for conducting sociological research symposium or workshops sponsored by AKD chapters.
Up to $500 may be awarded to chapters.

AKD Teaching and Learning Workshop at a Regional Sociology Conference
The purpose of this program is to advance the quality of teaching in the discipline of sociology.
Up to $500 will be awarded to five applicants for each event to help offset travel expenses.

PROGRAMS

AKD Mentorship Program
The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for all AKD members, both students and faculty, to connect and network with other AKD members and professionals in the field.

Graduate Student Representative on AKD Council
The purpose of this program is to provide direct student perspectives and ideas to Council, as well as provide an additional mentorship opportunity between Council and graduate students.

Deadline: Application submission -- May 1

AWARDS

Emory Bogardus Chapter of the Year Award
The purpose of this program is to recognize and reward chapter achievement in fulfilling the general purposes of AKD. $500 will be awarded to one chapter to support chapter development and service activities.
Deadline: April 1, 2017

Undergraduate Student Paper Competition
Undergraduate AKD members are encouraged to submit their papers for a chance to win cash prizes and up to $1,000 in travel money to attend the ASA annual conference.
Deadline: March 1, 2017


Graduate Student Paper Competition
Graduate AKD members are encouraged to submit their papers for a chance to win cash prizes and up to $1,000 in travel money to attend the ASA annual conference.
Deadline: March 1, 2017


Minority Fellowship Program (MFP)
AKD annually contributes $18,000 to this scholarship fund.
Please note: One applies through the ASA website (not through AKD).

AKD Distinguished Lecturer
Each year, AKD has a Distinguished Lecture session at the annual meeting of the American Sociological Association. A speaker is selected by the Distinguished Lecture committee to present the lecture. To see AKD's past lecturers, click here!
